Family Support Service

SAFS provides a Family Support service to our families offering support, advice and guidance; through home visits and contact with the centre.

We assist our families with:

  • Benefits advice and form filling
  • Support with parenting skills
  • Confidential “sounding board”
  • Accompany and support at Hospital and GP appointments
  • Accompany and support at school appointments
  • Interpreting and translating service

Family support can be offered by a direct self-referral to SAFS or it may come via the council’s Early Help Team.

The advice and guidance offered could be:

  1. On a short-term basis. This is level 1 support and can last up to 12 weeks.
  2. On a medium-term basis. This is level 2/3 support and can last up to 6 months. This is when families need more in depth support from numerous services, SAFS will liaise with the local council’s early help team.

SAFS are invited to case meetings to review the support required by the family and are seen as the lead professional in organising and participating in quarterly and/ or 6 monthly meetings with the Early Help Team.

In such cases, SAFS works jointly with the Community Operating Group (COG) and carry out weekly visits or as and when required.
